The generic title had me prepared for a mediocre experience, but it actually turned out to be one of the more entertaining Hidden Object games I've played. This may be because I usually enjoy the point&click aspect more than the actual Hidden Object screens, and this is exactly where Sacra Terra shines. The locations are fun to sift through for useful items, the actual item combination puzzles are consistently well-designed and mostly perfectly logical, and the sheer volume of them is quite impressive too. I also ended up enjoying the story quite a bit. The main character is meant to banish seven demons that have taken the form of the Seven Deadly Sins, and he does so pretty creatively (the "Lust Demon" is banished by summoning a succubus who drags him to hell, for example). It is all this and the general polish of the game that make Sacra Terra: Angelic Night stand out as a highlight of the genre.. https://youtu.be/hfJ847FO5_kWhile the opening video has a lot going on the story is abruptly reduced to barely a trickle once play starts. Puzzles tend to be on the simple side with many solvable by a little brute force.. I liked this HOG, in general. It has a decent length, and it's not particularly hard.GOOD:The graphics are pretty nice, as are the cutscenes, the music, and the design of the demons. The story is alright. The game includes two difficulty levels, and hints (in case you get stuck, but they're not needed). There's also extra collectible hidden objects on the point-and-click parts that you can look for if you want to (they're not required, and don't go into your inventory).MEH:You're not particularly threatened by the demons you're fighting. The reason for that is explained in-game, though.BAD:* There's a map (which helps quite a bit, as it tells you where there's available actions), but it has no fast travel. Getting from one place to another doesn't take that long, but there's not much reason to make you click your way through the screens, even if they look nice.* There's no voice acting - I guess it's not mandatory, but it'd make the game more immersive, if it was done well.* There's a place where you take certain token items and you magically (in the literal sense) get them traded for other items that you need. This feels a bit too cheap, and is overused.* Sometimes the protagonist already knows something before looking at some particular item. His logic is sometimes weird, too: "I have to fight this demon... let's summon this other demon! I'm sure they'll defeat each other, and I won't get an even worse problem!" And it does work, but that's besides the point.DEPENDS ON PERSONAL PREFERENCES:* The game isn't particularly hard. You can usually tell where to use each item on the point-and-click parts, and maybe you'll get stuck for a couple of minutes looking for the last object of a HO scene, but you can use hints if you want to avoid that. Puzzles tend to be easy, too.* You'll revisit each HO scene several times, looking for different items. Some people will get annoyed by that, but I liked it, as it makes each scene super-crowded, and you don't just click an item that seems out of place.* Many items will be repeated on each HO scene, which makes it a bit harder ("Oh, I need a hammer now, I think I remember where I saw that! Wait, did I see it on this scene, or the previous one?"). They don't reuse images for different scenes, though. Also, even if it's the same name of the item, the actual item may be different: a "hammer" could be a small hammer, or a really big one, or a drawing of a hammer, or a photo, or... MC Hammer? (Last one isn't an actual example, but the alarm on my watch went off and it was hammer o'clock.). Sacra Terra: Angelic Night is a HOG that sticks to the tried and tested supernatural theme that the genre is addicted to. You wake up in a hospital bed to find the complex you are in has been taken over by demons based on the seven deadly sins, and with the help of the murdered daughter of the administrator who now just happens to be an angel, you have to defeat the demons one by one.The Good. The story is pretty strong and keeps you interested. The cutscenes are excellent, and there are lots of them. The visual style and graphics are high definition and amongst the best for the genre. The soundtrack and audio are perfect and don't distract. There's a bonus chapter (although it doesn't add much to the story and feels tacked on)The bonus chapter is 90% new locations, HO scenes and puzzles. Only the first two rooms are reused. The game is very cheap and has trading cards. The map is detailed and there are a lot of locations to visit. It's not too short or too long. The Bad.There's no fast travel. The map will tell you where there are actions that need to be completed, but you need to manually travel there .. and that can mean traveling through up to eight scenes, and then having to travel back. The story is very good, but a lot of the details aren't revealed through the gameplay, as they only appear in your journal. For example, at the very end of the game, I killed the final demon with an object, but didn't know why that object was fatal to them, checking the journal explained why.The puzzles are on the easy side. There are a lot of HO scenes (bordering on too many) and a lot of those scenes are reused multiple times. I really don't like when I'm close to completing a task or puzzle and then the last object or piece magically shows up in a HO scene that has appeared in a location you have been though multiple times, and this game does it a lot.Overall, I think this is a very strong HOG. It's nothing you haven't seen before, but it does it well. Considering the price, I have no hesitation in recommending it for the four or more hours it will take to complete.. Better than many HOGs I've played. The story is quite ridiculous, though that's to be expected from this genre. It's the beautiful art, great music, and fun puzzles that allow this HOG to rise above many others in the genre.. Another decent hidden object game, the gameplay is perfectly fine - the puzzles are easy, the hidden object scenes are decent although the same scenes are used a bit too often, the length is pretty standard for these types of games (one evenings worth roughly) - although it probably feels like it will take longer it speeds up towards the end. The best element of the game is the story/atmosphere which is significantly better than the norm for the genre. In terms of gameplay the point and click part of the game is relatively decent and mostly logical, with a map with hints of everywhere you can do anything, and an active hint system beyond that if you need more help - the puzzle minigames are all easy - I skipped one, where you need to know the order of astrological systems as I couldn't be bothered to look it up, but the puzzle is just swapping the symbols over, there is no complexity or thought needed, as with most of the other puzzles. So overall this is a fairly easy one to recommend, just don't expect a challenge, just an easy ride through a somewhat decent mildly scary story.. A HOG where you get to capture the 7 deadly sins. That's got to be worth something right? I enjoyed it and would recomend it to anyone.
